Open vs. Divided Carb Spacer Comparison - Dual Plane - HP? Carb Tuning?

Resurrecting this thread!
Currently running dual plane Eddy RPM intake on low deck 451 and 735 SS Quick Fuel Carb with 1/2" open phenolic spacer. Looking for more off idle response and wanting to try a tapered 4 hole spacer. I measured hood clearance with clay and have more room than I thought and can bump up the spacer to a 1" thickness, so I'm thinking 1" tapered 4 hole aluminum from HVH. Good choice for my dual plane?

I also don't want to lose the heat shielding benefits I've had from my phenolic spacer. I've read some people put a heat resistant coating on the spacer face prior to install - not sure if this is coating available at the corner store - are we talking some sort of Pertronix brand coating?

Going to the 4 hole tapered spacer of 1 inch will work on the RPM manifold. I have done it and throttle response off idle through in to the mid range rpm was improved over the 1 inch open spacer. The owner of the car was amazed at the difference in response with no apparent lose in the top end.
The one I have used is a Wilson but the HVH looks good also.
Given the RPM already is heat isolated and you are raising the carb 1 more inch from the heat I doubt you will notice much of a heat issue - it is the law of diminishing returns as you raise the carb.

I saw a full inch increase of vacuum at idle on a stock 440hp going from a thin open heat shield thingy somebody had stuck in there in between two gaskets by switching to a 3/8 edelbrock heat shield spacer. No vacuum leak with either
