Operable Radiator Cap

I had an earlier post to part number for an early 16lb. cap. My other question is if the cap is operating correctly, should the brass button in the center inside the cap be spring loaded or lose and rattling. Mine is rattling and I believe that means it needs replaced. Thanks

new ones can rattle and be loose.only way to test a cap,for sure,is to do it with a pressure tester.
