Painting Interior Vinyl & Plastic - Clear Coat?

Good morning all, I'm painting my kick plates and upper door panels, as they're faded and looking 50+ years old (go figure). I got the right color for my 70 Charger SE from Herbs (Brown 656) and the color looks correct; however, I think they should be "shinier".

Does anyone clear coat interior pieces to protect/shine them up? Just wondering so thought I'd ask people who've done it before.

I used Herbs on my '71 Cuda without any problems, although the color I chose was white. Different textures can reflect light differently, but as long as the finish is consistent throughout the car, I don't think anyone would notice. So I would stay away from a clear coat, in my opinion. Mind sharing a few pictures?

I did - it adheres well, just not crazy about the lack of shine/gloss.

The hinge covers (metal) look fine to me, but the plastic feels less glossy. For reference, the buddy seat bracket covers are painted on the outside (bottom one) and not repainted on top one

I have never seen kick panels really glossy from factory. I used SEM though and you can purchase different sheen’s. I used Herb’s black on some things.
Tou could call them and ask for their opinion.

I did, Herbs suggested I try a couple different clear coats to get the sheen I want

I use SEM vinyl clear coat on high wear areas. They make several gloss levels.

SEM Low Luster clear “Low Sheen” (SEM 13023), SEM Satin Gloss clear “Medium Sheen” (SEM 13013) or SEM High Gloss clear “Wet Look” (SEM 13003).

It won’t change the color. Provides protection to the color and UV protection. You will probably want medium sheen as low luster is probably typical of the finish on your panels now.

I used Krylon outdoor clear over SEM interior paint and had good results. The SEM base coat has good color, but is physically weak and scratches very easily without a clearcoat

I have done it before with great results. I can’t think of any reason why you shouldn’t as long as the clear is compatible with the paint you used.
