Passwords WTF

I've used the same e-mail address since 1998. I've had the same e-mail password since 1998. I use a variation of that password on stuff that doesn't deal with my money. Like this one! I have had the same bank password since 1998. My ebay and Paypal and Merrill-Lynch password is 17 characters long. I was told it takes years to figure out one that long. Maybe not now but back when I came up with it. And my ATM password is the VIN of a car I had in 1972.

i have book with 100 useless pass words and logins, it's the way the world is now.

i remember when we used to go to stores! :)

It’s this easy

*first thing to remember. It’s your computer.
1. Create a file called passwords.txt on your desktop.

-myhealthcoverage
Myuserid
Mypassword

-excel
Myuserid
Mypassword

on and on. It’s not that difficult

when you use/need it. Copy/paste

if you are paranoid about a hacker getting into your system pay for a good anti virus or don’t make the file name so obvious.

I would NOT put bank accounts or anything financial in this file.

forgot ID & PW again.......

I avoid places that want to obtain all sorts of personal info they DO NOT need for ordering stuff. Same when I’m ordering on the phone asking why do you need this info? Also have asked are you going to sell this info? A few times they’ve admitted they’re not sure. BS. Won’t order finding another source..

Google is your friend here.
If you have a google account and use Chrome then Google will suggest an automatic password, store it for you and you can view and monitor all your stored passwords.
Much easier than a notebook.
I have CRS as well (Can't Remember Shit)
First things first - Google is never, ever your friend. They are the most tangled, intertwined, invasive, controlling, POS company the world has ever known. Once you let them in - in any way they’re virtually impossible to rid yourself of. Believe me I’ve gone to great lengths to do so - and find them still sneaking around all over the system place. If anyone can advise me of how to completely and totally rid myself of that plague of a company - I’m all ears and would be forever indebted. They have nothing but nefarious intentions.

Not sure what browser you use but you could download Firefox and then install Ublock Origin adblocker. Say bye bye to all those ads and have a nice fast browsing experience.
The major benefit to Firefox is that it is “open source” and owned by Mozilla Corp. Unlike many of the others that that are either outright owned or at a minimum have mutual entanglements with the Big Tech traitors. Myself I use DuckDuckGo as my default and primary browser and also have Firefox as a much less used back up - for when DDG is blocked by the traitors.

The claim is that DDG, unlike the other search engines, does not track your usage. All of the others do.
I tried them for a bit and well, just didn't feel the love.....

What the hell is up with these companies and their endless demands for setting up a portal, an online account and requiring a long detailed specialized impossible to remember passwords?!!
I tried to order some pre-mix salt packets for my sinus rinse from neilmed but they require all of my personal information including a long complicated password to set up an online account before I could order anything. And you can't buy anything from them without an account. What the **** do they think I'm going to do with "sinus rinse"?
Needless to say I did not order from them. But this seems to be an ever increasing trend with most online companies.
I really have to agree with you. This garbage has gone off the rails. One that really annoys me is Doctors - I see a number of specialists for various reasons. Everyone of them has a different portal requiring individual signups/sign-ons. Drives me nuts so I refuse to use any of them with the exception of my PCP - which even in that case does not populate 90% of the information that should be on it. For the most part I mainly use it to email her instead of going to see her.

Passwords for EVERYTHING!! I use Norton 360 for my protection. So I also use Norton’s Password Vault. I have 79 active passwords - beyond insane. I use facial recognition for every site that has it which helps - But there just seems in 2022 there’s got to be a better way than this endless password accumulation. I also refuse many things that require another password set-up because I’m sick and tired of playing this game.

Duck Duck Go recently admitted that they skew their results and were busted tracking; ddg is a non starter. Brave - which was started by the guy who invented Mozilla [firefox] but was ousted from his own company after he had the audacity to contribute to a Conservative political cause - is the go to these days. Braves search doesnt track, but still relies on some of joogles algorithms so your results are skewed. Use StartPage or Swisscows imnso; neither track and you will undoubtedly find something on SwissCows that you won't elsewhere. Startpage is more intuitive, but their image searches are awful. :( Brave won't let you set Swisscows as default, so thats a headache. No one size fits all solution any more ... but ANYTHING connected to "G" is evil. Period.

And to answer the OPs original question, all the accounts/passwords are for tracking and marketing. Simple. [even tho there are often much more nefarious reasons/results than just that...]

Oh, and use TOR on anything that you can/is sensitive if youre worried about it. and a VPN.

You realize your talking to car guys and not IT guys and 99% have no idea what you just said.

Hint - G--gle is NEVER your "friend".
Correct! Oh man, is that EVER correct!
I use DuckDuckGo.

I wonder if it’s really any better.
It most certainly is - at least, until Google shows up and wrestles control of it like they do everything else.
Adblocker is a good way to stop all that...cr8crshr/Bill:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::usflag::usflag::usflag:
Yep - although I personally prefer AdGuard these days. Runs clean as a whistle and I never see ads either here on FBBO
or any other site, including YouTube.

I wouldn’t even remotely go that far - I understood every word said - and just because it’s a car site - I doubt that almost nobody else understood it either. It’s 2022 - young or more mature everyone needs to get in the game and understand at least to a mid-point degree what‘s going on. Good info by @guy gadbois.

:D:D:D As Bugs Bunny usta say, "he dont know me very well, do he?" I assure you Mr T2R9, I am no geek. I am probably the most computer illiterate person on this board! Im a one finger typist - 2 if Im feelin sporty - have NO celphone/smartphone, no 'smart' [spy] devices anywhere and the machine Im on at the moment was given to me. I only let it in the house originally for internet radio and for email, as my long distance bill to a buddy in New Zealand was overwhelming. Of course Ive found many other uses for the atomic abacus since, but I am no IT guy.
But I DO read a lot and do NOT trust most internet providers [nor the govt], so I do what I can to protect my privacy. Plus, I hate getting annoying ads. So... to do what I suggested, just go to your computer/phone/whatever, and wherever you would normally type in whatever you are looking for, say, like, oh, "original muffler bearings for a 64 Plymouth Max Wedge", just type in 'Brave browser.' Go to their site and hit the button that says something like 'install Brave'. Then it will prompt you to 'make Brave your default browser'. Mash that button. Once there, Brave will give you options to install/uninstall several things like search engines. UNINSTALL/DELETE google and make Startpage or Qwant your default search engine. You are now as 'private' as I know how to make you w/o installing a VPN or using TOR, both of which are also easy, and easily found using the www.
Hope that might help.

@RRDon, On a related note, I make my own sinus rinse. My ENT Doc gave me a formula to use. Consists of baking soda, kosher salt, and distilled water. I figured the ratios, and started making my own a quart at a time. I only spend a few cents a month on flushing my snoot. PM me if you want the formula..

Oh yeah... one more thing I just remembered - with Brave, they give you an option for 'private window' AND a direct connection [no pun intended] if you wish to TOR. So that makes it even easier...

BTW - I was earlier defending Firefox as all what I said. As I said it’s my backup to DDG. I used it today only to notice that - a downloaded Firefox app - at least on my phone - is using Google to search - with additional links to all the other evil ones - FB, Twitter, Utube, Amazon. How does this happen? - I WANT THEM GONE!! Especially Google. How do I make this happen?

Advice from someone wiser than I would be of great value to me.
