To change a cam in a SB mope. the oil pan does not have to come off??, and to change it in a BB the oil pan does have to removed.:eusa_think: 60s era

It would be best to remove pan on BB as front of the pan bolts to it but you likely could do it with out

I can remove & replace timing cover on both blocks without removing oil pans on either one

The problem is compressing that front oil pan seal enough to get the timing cover bolts to line up. Or you can use "the right stuff" and ditch the gasket all together.

exactly....I fergot to say that

No, you do not need to remove the oil pan in either case. It will be a bit tedious to clean/prep if you used tons of RTV when assembling though (like most people do). There are "cam change kits" available that have just the front portion of the oil pan gasket. You remove the timing cover, cut the old gasket, place the new one in, and put some RTV at the seam.

If you didn't use RTV at all you can just take the timing cover off, and reinstall.
