I was driving my 1969 Coronet R/T up a four lane 50 MPH highway to meet my wife and daughters at my Fathers house. I wanted to stop and get coffee as I woke up early, cut the grass and ran three miles all before 10 am. While sitting at the red light in the right lane a Pontiac G8 with two twenty year olds in it pull up in the left lane in a G8. It had an aftermarket exhaust on it from the rumble. Light turns green and they take off to the next red light. I take it easy and pretend that I do not want to race and make it to the next red light under a light throttle. Road is fairly empty and we are both at the next red light when it turns green. He hits the throttle and I let him get a car length ahead of me before I rev it to 5,000 RPM and proceed to lay tire in second gear (rookie mistake on my part) and as I pass them while my Trutrac tries to get traction. Next red light they come up to me and the driver is smiling and i did not have the heart to tell them that I was only about halfway into the pedal...
Those little G8's are small and quick, but no replacement for displacement. 6.2 liter to my 8.2 liter and I have to weight at least 1/3 more. Time for street legal slicks.

I love it. ( Although, that G8 is not really small & light. Your car may actually weigh less. The G8 is about 4000 lbs.)

If that G8 was the GXP model, it's good for 13.0 at 108mph. Weighing about 4000 pounds, I wonder what the Pontiac would do if it also had slicks. :)

It was painted flat black with all the decals removed so it was hard to tell what model besides a G8. It sounded healthy and was 'murdered out' probably with a cold air intake so he can claim it is not stock. Maybe he thought taking the emblems and trim off would make it faster? I obliged since I am sick of the four banger Mitsubishi's and 16 year old's wanting to race althought I am sure they are fast, too. It was nice to see an American V8 wanting to race instead of the Japanese crowd. I thought he was going to follow me into Starbucks as I would have liked to talk to him about the G8 and my Jeep SRT is midly built with headers, intake, larger throttle body and a tune.

My new minivan ran neck to neck with a Newer RS Camaro for 800ft. I'm also sure it's as quick as most of my old/stock musclecars.

You just really need to be careful and we really should not street race but I am sure we all have at one time or another. I always say I wont street race as at almost 59 years old I know its not worth the risk so I like to do my racing at the track but I will admit about 5 years ago I let my ego get the best of me and street raced an SRT-8 Challenger at a redlite. I was actually on my way to the track to run in a Saturday test & tune at Cecil County dragway in Md. I saw this guy in the black SRT-8 come buzzing up along side me. I let him go at the first lite we caught. And we were at the edge of a small town as the next lite we caught was where the speed limit jumped to 55 mph. I knew he was going to go for it so I eased into it as the lite turned and then I saw him nail it so I did right after him and I hit it to hard and spun good and as I lifted some digging for traction he put a car lenth on me but I fially got traction and then shifted into second gear and then caught him and walked a good car lenth on him as by now we were hitting 80 mph so I lifted as he knew he was spanked as I was still pulling him more when I lifted. Now this was 5 years ago when I had my old 440 in the car that ran mid 11's. In fact after my little street race I proceeded to run an 11.49 @ 116 when I got to the track which was a new best for my old 440. Anyway we all know we should take it to the track but it sounds like we both spanked a brand Xer car. Ron

I would have to agree about street racing. It is dangerous and illegal. This may have been the only time truly I raced and I may have hit 60 MPH in a 40 MPH zone before we both let off the gas.

I ran 14.4@98mph in my 2015 chrysler 200 S type.

The 2009 G8 GT in the lane next to me went 13.9@ 101

It could have been a V6 Pontiac G8. If you heard the rumble most likely a V8. Beware they can be very fast.
