I recently purchased a 1972 Satellite with a 360 Magnum Crate Motor already in it (original 318). The last owner mentioned that it ran hot in the summer and after reading some of comments from the thread listed below I think I understand why - no fan shroud.

http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?t=10629

It has one 16" electric fan just mounted on the stock 22" radiator towards the drivers side. There is a March pulley system with serpintine belt that doesn't not allow enough room to run a mechanical fan or install the original shroud.

I think my 2 options are -
1) Find a dual electric fan setup that includes an aftermarket fan shroud
2) Go the aluminum radiator route with the dual fans and shroud included

I was also thinking about going to a larger aluminum radiator but the stock 22" seems to take the entire opening. Would a 26" wide radiator fit?

All help is appreciated.

I used to have someover heating issues with my rebuilt 318 motor and stock radiator with fan shroud. I was told that because the block is all clean from the rebuilt, heat transfers easily, heating up the coolant, however, because the old radiator is gunked up and probably not not flowing 100%, the heat transfer in the radiator is less than par. After getting the new radiator, it ran right at about 190-200° all the time.
Just a thought to concider.

A car with a factory 22" radiator will always be too small for a larger radiator. With a larger radiator, you will increase coolant capacity but not air flow.

OK - I agree that the 22" wide opening will not allow more airflow over a 26" wide radiator. I would really not like to cut out any steel, so it looks like the 22" radiator is my size.

I am guess that my direction should be a more efficient radiator with a built in fan shroud and electric fans. Any recommendations for companies?

A 26" Radiator will fit absolutly perfect-
Id go the route of chaging to a v groove march pulley system that allows for mechanical fan and radiator with shroud
