Power Steering Pump Cooler

So why do taller gears require a cooler? More RPM? More Heat? What is the engineering logic behind it?

although the pix of the green bush behind the pix of the red car, promotes a degree of coolness....don't you think so???

You answered your own Question. More RPM's create more heat because pump is turning faster. So the cooler dissipates the heat of the liquid.

Why show pix of the cars????.....they have nothing to do with the PS oil cooler Installation......why not show a pix of the pump and cooler installation???.......although the pix of the green bush behind the pix of the red car, promotes a degree of coolness....don't you think so???....just my thoughts......

For those too smart to understand, my car is set up for cornering and handling, not sitting in the garage. I show pictures of myself and my cars as imperfect as they are. The picture was to show most of us, those that aren’t so brilliant that “obvious things slip by them”…that a power steering cooler is an advantage to some but not all.
I don’t pretend to know more than everyone else and then play it off with some phrase like just my opinion or something like it.

I'll be truthful I have no idea when Mopar added the coolers in the PS circuit. I just know my 71 Cuda with 3.90 gears came with it. Could be they had some kind of failure in the PS circuit and the cooler would eliminate it. Fluid getting too hot and maybe have seal problems from the hotter than normal driving that the increased RPM was causing.

As I noted previously.....it's called sensible heat load.....due to increased pumped volume and absorbed entrained heat.......or higher losses.....

Here's a picture of my PS cooler that came from the factory in 71. Of course that's not a 383 spinning the pump.

Here is what I have. The cooler is straight from a mid to late 80s Diplomat police car.

so a 69 Hemi Roadrunner should have one ?
Not necessarily......depends on rear gear ratio and trans.......3.54:1 (Dana 60) and greater or 3.55:1 (8-3/4" Chrysler) and Hemis with automatic trans usually got 3.55:1 Chrysler......Hemi 4 speed cars used the Dana 60 rear. ........just my thoughts......

Last I looked, ten years ago, their radiators were $1400. I'm afraid to see what they charge today.
A GLENRAY reproduction max cooling 26" radiator # 2998956 (with shroud, 7 blade fan and torque drive clutch) for my GTX, RS23V0A******** was $1400 + shipping.....guaranteed for as long as you own the car...,,,and it performs exceptionally well holding coolant to 185°F in stop/go traffic with 100+ degree F ambient.......moral of the story....you get what you pay for......$1400 is a great price......or are you a person that squeezes nickels, then ******* when their selection doesn’t cut it........cheap is not the best bargain.......just my opinion......

RJ so with a Dana 60 and 410 gears from factory it would have one

It would likely be a six (6) barrel engine, (or Hemi) 4 speed trans, 3.54:1 (or 4.10:1) Dana 60. My RS23V0A****** has the A34 Super track pack option and has the Dana 60 4.10:1 rear. Suggest you climb under the car a look for the red & white tag on the left side axle tube and ratio tag under a cover mounting bolt. Do you know the physical difference between Dana 60 and Chrysler rear? Or are you just speculating?? Btw....the Dana 60 is a Sure grip clutch type carrier........

Oh, piss off, Glen Ray.
FOUR hundred dollars? Really?
Date coded for the guys that are restoring high end cars. (like 6 pack and Hemi cars) So piss off.

Oh, I see the "niche" market but..... for me and the rest of the 95%, I have zero interest in paying that much for it.

Most of us don't have a #1 resto project so it's hard to see spending $1400 for a radiator. I have a BeCool radiator, and at $600 I thought it was a lot, but worth in the end.

Some people don't think very broadly. There are different products and prices for different projects.

Anyone got a picture of how one mounts on a 66-67 small TRW pump? I converted my 66 Hemi to PS and I’ve browsed a bunch of 66/67 Hemi, 4-speed/dana cars in pictures on line and haven’t had much luck actually finding one with a cooler. I suspect as soon as they leaked many were trash canned. Looks like space for one would be tight with a Hemi so curious where it went.
