I found this on the pallet of heads at an auction I won. Looks a a variable Venturi. Tall bastard.

around Sacramento & Fremont Raceway, 'fugly ***' carbs too

A decent carb, but a lot of people were put off by the boxy looks. Most of the people who didn't like them were people who hadn't used them. Parts are still made for it.

But you have to ask yourself why did the guy get rid of it?
 
I think they came and went with stripes like this on Pro Street cars.
