Does it seem like project cars/old cars have been getting less and less?
Not much on craigslist anymore and ebay has mostly dealers.
In the last 5 yrs or so, seems projects being sold by regular car people may be becoming less common? Yes or no

Definitely. It was bound to happen eventually of course. In hindsight, I'd probably save some of the parts cars I had in years past. There will be a point where values flatten out over time.

I noticed the same thing, regarding craigslist & project cars, but I think its more that people don't want to pay now that CL charges to sell a car, Facebook marketplace is where the deals are at ! & its Free !

I don’t think so. Keep in mind CL now charges for car ads. FB Marketplace seems to have taken those free ads. Also, people have money right now and don’t need to unload projects they’ll get to. I just unearthed a 78 Express truck that was advertised on FBMP. It had been off the road since 2012.

IMO I think people don’t use CL like they did. If that’s where your looking it’s less for sure.

And then there are guys that have them as "someday when I get around to it" cars. I know of 5 or more that have been cubby holed for more than 30 or more years.

I personally think they are sitting in places where the guy is gonna "get around to it" but doesn't want to let them go. When that person passes away, the family doesn't want to mess around, and sells to a junkyard or "we buy cars" guys. I personally know of 2 of these situations, and the family is planning that

It's gonna be spuratic the next 5-10 years, but they will pop up

I've got a 66 Charger project for sale, big block. Lots of interest, but no follow through from buyers. Some people are waiting for that really nice project for more money, due to the cost of restoration.

I'm curious: how many tire kickers, low ballers, " is this available" guys you getting? Also, what's the average age of the buyer?

They are still out there. Barnfinder goes out there all the time and finds "collections" .....hehe (hoarders) who intend to restore their collectibles to pristine condition. Holy crap, look at the MN Gold project I'm working on.....car sat since '79 with 53k origional miles on her....

I have gotten some tire kickers, but the age range of the real buyers are 30 to 60 years old. The car I am selling now,I had decided when it had not sold, that I was going to put it together and drive it, and as soon as I started putting it together, a guy called and wanted to buy the car.

I just missed a 65 Barracuda 273 auto on floor, factory PS AC car needing the driver's side rear quarter patch, but no top side rust (as can be common on those cars), also with a nice red interior.

                  Running but not driving

                  $3200

At least here in CA, the asking price of project cars has crept up to where you can buy abandoned projects with a lot of work already completed for the same price or even complete running vehicles slightly higher. I've been looking for a new project and keep seeing low priced drivers that are less expensive than projects. Kind of an odd market right now but "dried up", not seeing it.

most of the action is now scattered between the FB marketplace and the various mopar groups on fb.
there are deals on wheels every day, prices have been falling like rain out of the sky lately.
i saw a beautiful 67 coronet r/t for under 10 grand last nite that you couldnt replicate for twice that.

...and there the super clean 70 Dart I posted in the "Under 10K for sale" thread.

Looks completely unmolested with build sheet 225 AC car with no readily apparent rust- $6200.

GREAT fodder for a 5.9 transplant.
