Question about having a tooth replaced ?

Lol, that’s from Marathon Man w/ Dustin Hoffman, that was one scary flick, as was Three Days of the Condor w/ Redford. Those movies gave me more willies than the horror flicks.
I think i saw marathon man one time... never again... that **** leaves scars :) 3 days of the condor is amazing too

I have very basic fed health benefit coverage, so it is all out of pocket and around $6000 but I was more concerned about them drilling into my jawbone and was curious how bad it was......

PRETTY EASY PROCEDURE, NOT TO WORRY

Thing that stuck is not knowing who was friend or foe, even trusted people being the ones prepped to kill ya. Nowhere to go. At least Redford nabbed a hot gal to help him. Watch out for postal workers wearing nice Italian shoes, lol.

Sorry, back to the matter of tooth repair.

Definitely pay the extra $ and get the implant. I have one of each:

For a bridge, they grind down the two healthy teeth next to the bridge and mold all three teeth together as one unit. It's like three steps backward to go one step forward. It's a pain to keep clean with dental floss threaders, etc. I really wish I had asked more questions before they proceeded as I would have declined. My dentist at the time was old-school near retirement and did not do implants, so that is certainly why he recommended it instead of an implant.

The implant is like a regular tooth. You won't know the difference when it's done.

I broke a n upper front tooth and chose implant. Took 13 months with extraction, bone graft, healing, stud, healing and finally tooth. Came out nice but was $3k with insurance. If it is a back tooth I would just have it removed. Front tooth implant is the way to go IMO.

I have a few, and a three-tooth-bridge. The bridge was $8300.00 without insurance. (Retired)
My parents both had false teeth. They didn't teach me to take care of my teeth. Glad I had
my implants done! They feel like real teeth. I have a great Dentist that sat me down in the
early 70's and asked me if I wanted to fix my teeth and I said yes. Glad he did!

My new hygienist just recommended the waterpik to me this week and sent me home with a brochure. I'll have one shortly.
Heads up on the waterpik - maybe you know - but there’s an all in one setup my hygienist recommended to me a few years back - An electric brush with a small water tank as part of the unit. The brushes have 1/2 holes in them and you’re able to brush and flush at the same time or separately as you like. I typically brush first then brush again with the water function on to flush between my teeth at the same time. A really great oral hygiene tool. Ibe had about 3/4 yrs and love this thing. No muss no fuss and clean teeth an gums. My hygienist expounds on the difference in my gums and how little plaque I have since - every time I’m in for a cleaning. I bought on Amazon - no better $$ spent.

I found it interesting that my hygienist did not recommend the combo unit. She said it doesn't do as good a job at either than the dedicated units. I could also tell that she was influenced by the waterpik sales rep, so keep in mind that recommendations from a single source are just that: one person's opinion.

My hygienist is/was not influenced by anyone. She had recommended anything and everything to me whenever I came in. Because I’m lazy and finicky at the same time nothing stuck - until she mentioned this setup. That struck a chord in my lazy bonehead - I purchased and the results speak volumes for themselves. No more bleeding and gum line measurements have actually improved all around the gums accept the very far rear for some reason. For me a godsend….

You have the wrong unit linked. The combo unit all comes from the brush alone - there is no separate waterpik component. Just a brush w/tank - the water comes thru the brush heads. Has separate power up buttons for the brush and the flush on the handle.

I went the implant route, better longevity than a bridge. However the guy who did it the first time didn't get it plumb. After a few years the implant cracked from the side loads to it. The fake tooth kept loosening up. Once it was figured out, had to do it all over again. Out of pocket both times. Knock on wood, I won't have to do it again.

I finally got my implant - front tooth middle of last year. I had it knocked off at the gum when I was 9 years old. I have had at least 5 crowns over the years and they all wore down after a few years. It all came to a head 3 weeks before Covid hit here. I went to the dentist after tasting a bad taste....the root had given way after all those years and had a small abscess. My dentist extracted the entire root and fitted me with a temporary bridge so I could go on holiday with the family and look normal.

Well, that bridge lasted about 2 days....broke it halfway to our destination....at least I fitted in with the locals up north.

So it has taken 3 surgeries all under full anaesthetic, titanium mesh inserts, bone grafts from my jaw, chin and nose to fill the gap where the jaw had receded after 45 odd years, and around $30,000 our money. Luckily, I only had to stump up about $1,200 of that as my contribution. Long story - we have a funded health system here.

Nearly a year gone now and I am able to eat apples without cutting them, and as long as I go silly on hard foods, the implant should outlast me.
