Questions about the "spin test" to determine differential gear ratio.

Ok, I got back out to the garage and did the spin test with one tire on the ground and I get 3 plus a little bit driveshaft rotations with 2 full tire spins, so I see that as probably a 3:23. The block looking thing you highlighted in the pic is just rubber. It is thick on the sides, but thinner under the actual leaf spring.
That rubber block was used on the 73+ cars. It does not belong there. Someone has rigged that up. I would inspect it very carefully. Could be a big safety issue. Looks like a homemade shock plate too. Credit to R413 for noticing. I couldn't see past the atrocious tail pipe. That can't be helping the power.
 
I was looking past the exhaust pipe and saw the goofy axle mounts. LOL

I have a stock 318 coronet that can spin the tires, so something is up with your bee.

Yeah, I have the 318 4 door that will spin the one tire it can, so yes, something is not right!
 
Someone probably put the spacer blocks in to compensate for the tired leaf springs.
 
Thanks for the info! As far as I can tell, the car is pretty original, so I do not want to pollute it too much!
3.23 open would be the stock situation. I don't know if higher ratios were even available (ex:2.76)
3.23 could be ordered with a sure grip, and any lower ratio ordered (3.55, 3.91) were automatically a suregrip.
 
Agreed. Since the Bee could have the option of Sure Grip, I will plan on going down that road at some point (when money is saved up).
If you can't spin a tire with a 3.23 open, I'd look at the engine before spending money on a sg you don't currently need.
