The back of the car hangs a little to low for my likeing with the wife and kids in it.Does someone make a coil assist shock for these cars.If so,who? Please no air shocks,i refused to use them in the 70s.

I bought a set of coil assist one at oriellys made by monroe for my 69 charger. This car is my soon (maybe LOL) to be daytona clone . I had bought a solid aluminium wing for it and needed extra support . Then i sold the heavy solid wing for a hollow one. ? LOL

Stopped at the parts store on the way home.No listing for coil assist shock for the RR but they do list them for a wagon. Will they fit?In the pic they look the same, but not sure on the length.

Only difference in a "wagon" shock and a non-wagon shock is the length, with the wagon shocks being just a bit longer.

But a word about this. Using a coil assist shock is about the same as using air shocks in that the shock is what is supporting the weight of the car. These cars were NOT designed for this. The proper way to fix your issue is by replacing the leaf springs

Using air shocks or coil-overs can, and probably will cause the upper shock mount to crack

What he said. Air shocks or coil-over shocks are a cheap fix that will cost you big time in the long run.

If you just want to raise the rear... why not just longer shackles? If you like the ride height and just want it to be firmer so it doesn't sag when it is full of poeple, you probably need new or additional leaf springs.

I think that longer shackes are illegal in some states though, so beware. I think it is one of the things that they are supposed to check for here in Utah during the annual "safety inspection". :(

A longer shackle might lift it a smidge, but it won't fix anything. All that will happen is you will one day notice your leafs are flat, or even possibly curved the opposite direction

Really? I though that people have always put longer shackles on there to lift the back end of their cars. Wasn't it called "popping the shackles"? Maybe a bit before my time, so I could be wrong.

Ok,while flipping through the new Summit catalog i spotted in the 2 pages of mopar stuff, leaf springs.Stock type and Super Stock type.Which one would you recomend?

Jay;I've got HD-type springs from McVeigh's in Mio on the S.F.,but until the car's on the ground again,I won't know how much of a diff they'll make. Would an extra leaf make a difference for what you need?

Don't get the SS springs unless you're JUST racing. (whole nuther can O worms) Just get the XHD springs.

Here's a before and after on my Duster. Before had the /6 springs and (gulp) air shocks (courtesy a P.O) and the after is XHD's and Monroe shocks. Rides better too

Damn;nice Duster there,Runner! Perfect stance for those cars too. That's where I want the S.F. to sit;just slightly nose down.

Hey;looks like some hooligan did one of them "burnout" things in your driveway:yes:. Damn neighbor kids:tongueflap:! Juvenile delinquents everywhere,I tell ya!

Wow... I am glad for this thread, because I was honestly thinking about getting longer shackles to help lift the rear a bit. I thought it was a common thing to do. I didn't know it had ill effects. So does the change in geometry cause more weight on the back half of the leaf or something?

Good to hear all of the opinions on here. I have placed an order for new XHD springs myself. :)

I suppose it does change the geometry to some degree (also changes your pinion angle too) but if the issue is caused by springs that aren't supporting the weight, then the shackles couldn't really help to properly fix the problem. All it will do is (basically) push the back of the spring down, and what you need is more ARCH in the spring itself. Air shocks and coil overs can help with that, but then you get in to the whole thing of using the car's upper spring mounts to support the weight....which they were never intended to do

wannadrag at autozone there are universal lift kits and verious items that can assist in stiffening up your rear. i have found and bought a universal coilover kit that fits on any shock for $30 supposed to add up to 1500 lbs of extra support also for around 30 they have leaf spring helper springs that bolt on to your leaf springs to add more support. my springs were shot to start with under the cars own weight with no one in it they had almost no arc almost flat i wanted alot more hieght to put my n50's under her so i bought the drop shackles and that wasnt enough so i went and bought the leaf spring helpers wich actually gave me around 2" less sag on my worn out springs but still not enough so i bought the coil over kit at first sat high enough but big bumps still had tires rub fender so i preloaded the coil over kit and now it sits well and can take bumps. now i wound up getting a very nice tax return so i decided to buy new leaf springs from summit but havent installed them yet they were around 225 or so shipped. caution with the idea of new springs they had ones that are heavier but those springs if you read all the print say they require new (moved) front mounting brackets. odds are the ones under your car are from 70 so just getting the stock replacement ones should be stiffer than the 40+ year old ones. any way im running on here so also heres a pic of my rear with the shot springs longer shackles, leaf spring helpers and the coil over kit. sorry its not a close up shot
