This road crew got the concrete saw stuck. They had two guys bouncing on it trying to get it out. My brother is a concrete guy, he said that is an expensive mistake.
The plow could be going through a DEF regen process. Or just a budget surplus (go burn some fuel).
Buddy of mine (singer in a band I work with) is a firefighter. Telling me just the other day how all their heavy diesels have DEF systems and if they go into regen mode they have to take them "out of service' long enough to drive them to clear the filters.
Now I have DEF in my Grand Cherokee and it's pretty unobtrusive. It goes into regen mode about 2x a year...but I also know the larger the vehicle, or the harder you work it, the more often this can happen. I do know when mine happens, I typically have to drive it 20-40 miles at highway speeds to clear the filter. I can only imagine how far they have to drive a fire truck with a monster Cat or Cummins powerplant, to get it to clear.
Be nice if emergency response vehicles were exempt from all that crap. Everything else about them is focused on 'get there fast to save people'...maybe this should be, as well?
the IH dealer I drive for has these DEF filters sent to be cleaned frequently. All the mechanics say all that DEF stuff is unnecessary and causes problems.
