The really slick thing about this set up is you can run the gas generator with it's output plugged into the car while driving!
It's called "Charge as you Go!" It's amazing, it's like having all the benefits of a gas powered car! Now you can't be that with stick!

Actually, the vehicle is immobilized when the charger is plugged in. That's why you don't see blond women cruising down the road with a ripped off charging cord throwing sparks. Lol. But that does help with range anxiety.

Yes, they do become "immobilized" for a verity of reasons, sometimes even fire! About two years ago one of my neighbors got trapped inside his Tesla because something went haywire with one of Tesla's automatic software downloads. The outside door handles were in the automatic retract mode so no one on the outside could help short of breaking out the windows.
Lucky for him fire wasn't involved, this time. Sweet.

Chrysler used a generator on a trailer to run their electric Omnis and Horizons without having to recharge the batteries. It was a 5 horse as I remember from the article I read. Chrysler claimed they got the equivalent of 200 mpg when one compared the price of gas and electricity. There was one of the cars on BAT a few years ago.
