When I had the engine out last year, the engine and engine related parts of the project came to around $2500. That was by reusing the crank and rods, reusing an old cam and lifters that I had and by not rebuilding the heads. $2800 for machine work, pistons, balancing, timing set, paint, bearings, rings and gaskets, spark plugs, oil and filters. Oh yeah, new motor mounts and distributor drive too.
Now imagine adding the cost of a cam and lifters, rebuilt heads along with the rods and crank.
