Hi guys, I have a 1963 Savoy with a slant 6 stick.

I want to use it on the highway but also have a bit of power for acceleration.

Right now it has a 4.33 rear end which has a lot of acceleration but I don't know how it will do on the highway.

Do you guys know what ratio would be the best of both worlds?

Also I will be switching the 6 for a 318 so after the switch what ratio should it have?

Thanks

Miguel

Get some 3:23's, good all around gear ratio!

I like 3:55's but highway cruising with 27" tires put's you around 3,100 rpm, 3:23's are a good compromise like 5.7 has said.

I'm with the 3:23 crowd. I. Can't imagine having 4:33 gear in that car with that motor. I only have 3:91 gears in my 440 six pack. And that's plenty.

A all around good ratio is 3:55. With the 318 it should have some power and still go down the open road.

5.16's!!! That 4.33 gear isn't enough for that torqueless motor in that whale of a car.:bootyshake:
