I just experienced my wheels locking up (or close to fully locking up) after snugging-up the lug nuts. They were not over-tightened. This is a fresh rebuild of an 8-3/4" with Powr Lok, properly set-up new ring and pinion by someone who does this everyday, new seals, brakes, wheel cylinders, brake lines, etc. etc. I've never experienced this before. Before adding the brake drums, I placed the (manual) transmission in neutral and rotated the axles (no issues). I made sure the adjusters were backed-off to easily slip on the brake drums and then checked axle rotation again. All fine. I put on the wheel/tire and lug nuts and tightened them in sequence to roughly 50 lb-ft. There was no further adjusting of the brakes but the wheels will not rotate by hand at this point. I have the same backing plates and drums as before the rebuild. I've checked my new brake shoes and they are actually slightly narrower than the originals. Anyone had an issue like this before? I've been told that Sure Grip rear ends will do as I experienced but only if the transmission is in gear when tightening the wheels.
