Hi,

I have a 1971 Dodge Charger rear window defroster assembly. The assembly and impeller are rusted. Once I get it all apart, I'm going to media the rust away and rebuild the motor.

I'm trying to get the impeller removed from the motor shaft. I've removed the set screw and the impeller doesn't want to come off the motor shaft. I suspect it is all the rust. I'm now soaking that (not the motor) in apple vinegar. Any other tips or rebuild experience to lend?

Forget the vinegar, and use WD40 or Kroil. If you have enough room, use a small bearing separator or loosely fit vise grips under the fan. Make sure the vise grips do NOT lock to the shaft. Use washers accordingly to keep it from locking to the shaft. Put whole assy on a vise ( or another suitable backrest), and carefully tap the shaft to get the fan off. Lube as necessary, and making the fan go in each direction helps loosen it also.
