Want to remove fan on our 1976 Cordoba (360 engine). Got the 4 bolts loose but not sure if the fan is attached to the spacer, it just won't budge. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
I don't know if you pulled out the radiator, but if not I would suggest sliding a piece of cardboard or paneling in front of it. I'm guessing the spacer is aluminum and if my memory is correct it has a centering hole. Probably just a little corrosion in that spot. Try a soft hammer or the edge of a board and hit it progressively harder in different places, it should pop loose.
the water pump has a little nub in the center that fits in a hole in the spacer. Put a piece of cardboard between the fan and the rad so you don't hit the rad with the fan. Grab ahold of the fan and rock it up and down to loosen the fan and spacer from the water pump.
I agree with Don, a little persuasion goes a long way. Remember the old mechanics credo, "If it don't fit, get a bigger hammer". It works in reverse as well.
