Replacing Dodge letters on trunk lid

Hoping someone has some tips or suggestions on removing the nuts from the studs on the chrome DODGE letters on a 1964 Dodge 440 trunk lid? I can kind of get a straight 5/16 wrench on a couple of the nuts. Problem is they just spin. Don't loosen at all. No real rust just awkward to access.

Gently pull on the emblem while turning the nuts.

The gentle pull is a right approach, however the trick is how to pull without damaging the paint, something like this would be a good choice...
