Greetings all! Mr. Belvedere here again to poll the Mopar folks on something I've been doing for awhile and wonder if I'm the only one doing this... I have two MSD red distributor caps that I have been swapping on and off my car. As one gunks up and builds up that crusty grey deposit on the terminals inside the cap I will remove it from the car and swap it with the other one which suffered the same deposits but I have taken the dremel to those terminals and polished them back up all nicey-nice and buffed up the male terminals on the top of the cap as well. I feel like this is ok to do, but I guess I really don't know. I have been having ignition problems (or so I think they are ignition related) for quite some time, and just wonder if my distributor fixes aren't fixes at all and I'm just being cheap, which I am, but I guess I want to hear from others their thoughts on this matter. Can I refurbish a distributor cap or no?

If the gap gets too big, seems like could be a problem. I sanded mine a few times before spending the cash on new. I had more trouble with corrosion in the plug towers, but those were stock style female sockets.

Usual part that wears out on a distributor cap, is the rotor 'button', the center contact for the rotor.
