Please look at the pictures and tell me if the wear on these rocker arms is normal. These came of a 318 hydraulic lift motor. I took it off to look for cause of loud tappet noise. I found that if you push down on the push rod the lift will push down with a moderate push of the thumb. The spring brings it right back to the top as you receive the pressure. The main question is about the wear on the rocker arms.

Looks normal for 200k, if less than 100k, then I'd say lube issues from lack of ZDDP in the oil and the like, that seems to be a contemporary situation. I like the VR1 in these old motors.

Quite normal for high mileage. If there is an indent you can feel with your finger nail, rub them on some 180 emery paper until smooth. Inspect p/rod socket for signs of punch-through. Then good as new.

Just to follow up, put driven hr1 15-50 in and still have very light rocker noise while cold. It is raining here so no trial drive today.
