88yrs old(from England), first person to run a sub 4-minute mile. I hate long distances but it was a monumental achievement back in the day.

Rip.
Even more an achievement when you consider that there really wasn't gear for distance runners.
He did it in an old pair of sneakers.

40 yrs ago it was sprint for 110yds,coast 220, then sprint last 110. Then, soon after it was an all-out sprint for 440yds in the 1/4 mile.

I don't remember the guy but do remember the story. RIP - it was a great accomplishment back then. Now kids are doing it. Physicality has changed som much

Track shoes 50+ who were stiff cardboard(?) with spikes underneath, lol. Used to run on cinders, rubberized asphalt was a luxury!
