I just used them on a 87' w150 that I had to swap out the dash on, looked/ worked good enough to me ( for a 87' w150 anyway).

There are deceptive dudes that look to swap numbers to make a buck......but maybe I'm just overly trusting or optimistic when I state that I feel most people are honest. When restoring a car, sometimes you need to remove a tag to properly clean and strip a dash frame. Some Motor Vehicle officials may not notice standard rivets on a VIN tag so what else is a person to do?

Carefully grind the back of the rivet off underneath the dash frame, pop the tag off and clean it up..... silicone it back in place when done.

Nobody would ever notice if done carefully. :)

Exactly I said this many times. No reason NOT to re-use the originals except use a dab of epoxy on each one.

I did something very similar with my 57 Ford Retractable in the 80's knowing dip stripping would ruin my VIN plate that was installed with unobtainium rivets. Careful work and all is fine.

Yup, I've re-used them a few times... Not doing anything nefarious, but it's hard to restore a car without dealing with the dash...

I got my rivets today, they might be a touch small, haven't broken out the calipers yet... They are close... Paid $40 for two fifteen years ago, they weren't 100% spot on either...

If you drive the pin out of the dash rosette rivit. If its still in there? Then squeeze the shank of the pop rivit from behind the dash with a needle nose vise grip to shrink the shank down . You can remove the oem rivit out the dash and tag from the top side. This will save your original rosette rivits. , Then replace the pin robbed from a standard pop rivet and re-pop your original vin tag with your original vin tag rivets back on to your dash after restoring your dash and vin tag. Its difficult to get the shank of the rivet squeezed enough to pull it through. But with patience, it's doable. Just my 2cents. Good luck.

I don’t know how much it matters if at all, but I just looked at a photo I sneaked of the form the DMV inspector filled out when I registered my car and they mention the type of rivet used. Don’t know if they would spot a repro and care, in the past when I was a Chevy truck guy and on a forum for that there was a brouhaha over repro rivets being illegal.
