I went to take a drive in my '66 Coronet 500 to celebrate its 50th birthday - yup, it was built 50 years ago today, September 1st! My son and I were going to take it out for a spin, and I was going to let him drive it for the first time - he's been bugging me for six years about it. Get it started and it was idling for ****, like it was running on six cylinders, but there was not backfiring or any of that; it just sounded like crap and ran terribly. OK, so I'm thinking plugs and some fresh gas, no big deal. I back the car out of the shop and see a pretty fair-sized puddle of ATF on the floor, and a drip trail back to the car. C'mon, already!
I pull back into the shop, and it looks to be coming from the front of the trans; meaning a busted converter or the front seal gave way.
I think I have a handle on both problems, but damn, this really pissed me off this evening!
