Rust areas on a 1966 Coronet - what and where to look

Hello, I am going to look at a 1966 Coronet tomorrow - the car appears to have started life in Quarkertown PA, was bought by current owner in North Carolina

Being a East Coast car - I am sure there is rust in the lower rear quarters

I am new to Coronet's. Where should I look? Anything else I should look at for?

Rear frame rails. Floor trunk, Inner outer rockers, quarter panels inside out.. unitized body.. if its heavy shale.. its probably through.. if its fresh thick undercoating.. its hiding lots of issues..

Check the cowl from inside in the engine bay, the drains block with leaves and they rust out. Also check the front frame rails and front shock tower supports - dirt collects on the shelf and water gets into the holes, quite an expensive and involved repair. Check the underside of the hood, the webbing can corrode in places. Good luck!

Also the transmission and torsion bar cross member. PA cars can be pretty clean, much better than NY.

Rear window on the bottom the trim hides the rust but you can get some repair panels not a lot you will have to make a lot of parts yourself but its not a big deal make sure the grill is straight hardest thing to find besides taillight lenses post some pics when you see her the more compleat the car is the better off you are good luck

Well, I didn't have to look over the car very closely - it is showing a lot of rust. The bummer supports are basically gone, truck pan is gone, driver side floor pan is gone. What is scary, I see frame rail connectors but no frame rails ( shouldn't there be frame rails)

And this is the rust I could see, so there is more. I was really really hoping for a solid body

Seen worse....but yeah....walk away unless you buy it for parts and even at that, needs to be cheap.

yes, i had to get away. there was also a lot of hackery to the electrical system which would probably require a complete rewire, even the bulk block wasn't safe

And the car only had 1st and reverse from attempting to install a after market slap shifter (may have been easy - depends on the level of hackery)

If im looking at one of these. Body is most important. Interiors and drivetrains are avail anywhere. This one is junk .

looks like it's had frame "safTcaps" welded in.

Pic 4 is super scary as well.

These cars can weather the years quite well. You just need to find a good one.
