I have a few rust issues in the upper cowl section and fenders on a 74 charger. I am welding in the upper cowl section and using weld-through primer wherever i am welding. I am also going to take out the floors and weld in new pans all around. The fender braces over the wheel wells are pretty bad, but i have 2 extra fenders so out of 4 i think i can make 2 decent ones.

That said, i want to make sure there are no more rust issues. So my plan is to grind, sand and sand blast as much as i can. Once i am done bringing it to bare metal and get all the welding done. I was thinking of treating and painting it all up. The plan is to...

1. Ospho everything.
2. Use Eastwoods 2k epoxy primer. - (upper cowl, engine bay, inside fenders)
3. Use KBS Coatings Rust seal (2 coats) - (upper cowl, engine bay, inside fenders, floor pans, trunk, roof)
4. Use KBS UnderCoat which is rubberized and paintable on the inside of the fenders and anywhere it has original rust coating. (mostly inside fender area)
5. Use KBS Top coat (upper cowl, engine bay, inside fenders, floor pans, trunk, roof)
6. Use KBS Clear Diamond finish for bare metal stuff like wiper motors etc.

I'll also use KBS on the roof, floors, trunk (seem sealer also) and anywhere inside the cavities i can get.

So my question is, does that look like a sound plan to prevent any future rust? Also when you guys weld in floor pans, do you weld both sides or just the top as long as it penetrates through?

Por 15 is a product that will help you out alot.. seam sealers are okay as well as long as they dont trap water where it needs to go to drain and not collect.

I just replaced my complete floor pan and welded from the top. Make sure all the old paint, seam sealer rust is gone on the old, sprayed weld thru and proceeded to fill 2000 holes...the only place you will weld, if everything goes right, is the pinch weld where the fire wall meets the pan.
Not sure about your specific car bit the only real problem I encountered were they small pan support struts that are attached to the rockers. When everything was aligned perfectly, the struts fell on the ribs and did not sit flush. A couple of whacks with a 2lb made it all good

A guy has to remember these things dont see the weather they did when they were new. Most likely your car will be stored dry and only used on nice days. Years ago they were run in all kinds of weather and left out in the elements.

Agreed, my car won't ever see snow and/or minor rain... still i want it to last for the next 100 years. If i'm going to spend all this money, time and sweat, i want it to be perfect. :)
