Sears is closing stores...

They closed the sears here about 2 years ago when they redeveloped the area it was in, and this year, they reopened as an Appliance only store, lame!!!!! Kmart close here 2 years ago also, but nobody ever shopped there anyway!

K-mart closed in Iraq quite a few years ago....they just became Targets. :D

I'm not surprised. They've been losing business here for decades. If it weren't for their online sales they'd be finished long ago.

the internet will take out even more
brick and mortar stores as time goes on..

Their revenue has fallen almost 50%, and their stores have no inventory. They may be headed for bankruptcy. Too many lower prices options and better for appliances, lawn and garden and clothing. Last time I was looking for a specific sized drill bit to pre-drill for a helicoil, they did not have it, but I found it at Home Depot. Sad, but they no longer serve any distinct purpose in the retail arena.

I grew up with K mart and Sears. My first credit card was from Sears and I maxxed it out just buying tools and gasoline. The Sears in the local mall had a gas pump. Imagine that.

Kmart on the other side of town closed last year and the remaining one closes at the end of today. I was in Sears twice last week once around noon maybe a handful of people in the store and the next day on a Friday night at 7-8pm I didn't see any other customers while I was in there and they didn't close til 9 or 10. I noticed they got rid of all their electronics its just a big empty portion of the store now. Can't imagine whats going to take its place in the mall.

When I was a kid a long, long time ago it was a huge deal for my parents to pile all of us kids into the car and head for the big city of Boise Id. We never made the trip without stopping at the Sears store. I remember how huge the store seemed to me. By today's standards it would be considered small.
Times have definitely changed and many retailers like Sears haven't kept up with the changes. You have seen it coming for a long time. The Sears near me closed about 4 years ago and I was sorry to see it go, but I can get whatever I used to buy at sears from other sources. I do miss spending time in the Sears tool department whenever I have to take my wife to the mall.

used to buy tools back in the day when they quite having tool catalogs in store I stopped going there and the sales people really sucked ,I still use my Snap ON Dealer and Matco dealer a lot

I remember when you could buy ANYTHING at Sears. And it was all good quality. I've got a couple of Craftsman electric motors that are at least 60-70 years old and still work just fine. A good friend lives in a Sears house. Sad. Used to love to go to the big 3 story Sears that was downtown.

Craftsman tools are Chinese junk now.
No reason to pay the "craftsman" price anymore.

Sad!

When you get old and live in a truck, you can order your kids from Sears & Roebuck

They dropped the Roebuck name many moons ago but I remember seeing it on their signage. The appliance, tools and hardware store by me just closed. Got a battery for my garden tractor during the sale but used to go there somewhat often. The mom and pop hardware store closed last year and well, it's several miles to Home Junko and Lower then dirt. It sucks. Got my first credit card in 85 from Sears too but there's no way I carry a balance on it. Damn interest rate is through the roof! Drove by the the big box store on my way back and forth to work in what used to be the heart of town in the mid 70's and would stop in if I needed a tool. I found their tools to be ok...a bit on the soft side for every day use but still strong and still have the majority of them. Really can't can't compare the long term wear since I have very few Snap Ons etc but they felt more comfortable in my hands. Imo, SnapOn was too thin and hurt my hands when a lot of pressure was applied...

I bought my Craftsman Socket & wrench sets in 1988 at Sears....still use them to this day.

This continues to be a sad story. Not only for Sears (who I still refer to as Sears & Roebuck) but other iconic brick & mortar retailers. Although sad, it's interesting to see history repeating itself with consumer internet purchasing killing off brick & mortar retail sales just like Sears & Roebuck did to general stores across the country in the late 1800's with their mail order catalog business. Time & progress stand still for no one person or entity.

the internet will take out even more

...and everything you do, will be recorded, taxed, and put in some data-base. Shop local, pay cash, and keep some of your life to yourself.

In 1996 I predicted a return to catalog showcase stores.

Only one of each product in the store so you could examine it, then place an order and have it shipped.
