shifter mechanism jungle..

Hi there, I´, a bit confused, trying to figure out my shifting problem..
The question I have is,

Why are the shifter mechanism for -69 and -70 cars different?
I also noticed that the linkage is different?
I guess what it boiles down to is:
Are the transmissions different from year to year..? I thought that an A833 is an A833, period. please tell me I´m wrong!

The shifter mechanism and linkage are different because the 70 used a lock-out, key release interlock system and the 68-69 did not. Also the tail shaft trans mount mounting position is at a different position on a 70 than a 68-69 requiring a different trans crossmember for a 70 than a 68-69 when using original factory components I have a correct 70 crossmember, 70 shifter linkage, 70 mechanism and column lock rod.
