is it true what i hear that the straighter the shocks are the better the control and grip. or is it hear say but ladder bars shocks are more straight up and down or should the top be more tilted back for the control and launch

Shocks on a street car are angled so they control up and down and sideways to a certain extent.
Especially on a leaf spring car.
A shock on a drag or straight line setup does not have to worry about going around corners so you can stand it up straight because you only want to control up and down.
If you modify the rear links etc you may be able to get the system to work properly.
Someone else will most likely have some more info for you.
