I am considering installing 3 point retractable belts in my 66 Charger. I recall someone mentioning a kit that used a plate behind the coat hook mount. I'm hoping whoever mentioned it still has a link to it.

Look up optional shoulder belts for 67 B bodies, they were available. I made a message about this somewhere.

I searched some more and found it. It was in the 66-67 forum not the Charger forum, thanks. FYI it is a kit from Seat Belts Plus for 64-67 Mopar B Bodies. It looks like it will work in the Charger.:thumbsup:

If you end up installing these, do you mind sharing pics? My original plan was to be as cavalier as I usually am and go lap straps only like all my other classics have been in the past. Drivers in my area are definitely getting worse over the last few years, and I am thinking maybe not a bad plan to have shoulder harness in place...
 
I am busy completing an engine swap right now, so I may not be digging into the interior for a while. Do you have any pictures with the headliner removed where you can see the structure of the roof rail?

I feel the same way about needing a shoulder harness. My cuda originally had the two piece belt system, and I felt a lot better after I installed the retractable system in that car.

I'll post some pictures with the headliner removed here soon. I have been seriously considering spending the extra and going with 4 point harnesses. My car is going to be the more rough-and-tough look to begin with, so I think it can pull it off.

Here you go! I got close ups of the central roof brace area as I figure that is roughly where the upper shoulder mount would go.

I was able to mount a plate behind the inner roof rail on my 66 Satellite, but the Charger looks like there's no access point to get the plate in, so you will have to weld it on the face.
Anchor point for shoulder belt?
 
Thank you for the pictures. It confirms a couple of things. First the roof rail seems to be double walled and stout enough to handle the installation. Second the roof rail of the Charger is not the same as the instructions for other 66-67 B bodies. There is supposed to be an opening around the coat hook. It looks pretty solid in that area.
 
There seems to be a bit of a gap between the pinch weld and the roof skin. I wonder if you could drill a hole through the double thickness pinch weld and slip a backing plate in from the top of the gap? I assume the pinch weld is flat on the back. I am thinking you could use the supplied plate and basically trim the long edges along a line drawn through the outermost holes. You could still rivet it in place using the centre holes to keep it from shifting until the bolt was tightened.

After seeing what is involved, I decided to pull the trigger on camlock style 4 point harnesses for mine. Harnesses are definitely not the right choice if you're going for stock or stock-ish appearance, but there are going to be quite a few performance looking touches on mine already, so I think I can get away with it.
 
So are you putting a crossbar behind the seats to mount the shoulder belts?

No, I felt like that would make the rear seats challenging to use. While I don't plan to use them often, I still want them accessible. The OMP harnesses I got are designed for "floor mounting" IE they bolt through the floorpan with a massive super chunky washer on the outside as reinforcement.

May not fly at an FIA race event (which this car will never attend haha) but for street use, should work. Image below gives an idea, except the angle on mine should actually be a little better.

I did some measuring and if I have the attachment points hidden between the rear seat base and the bottom of the rear seat back, they should still be within spec angle-wise to be functional. The other option is to actually steal the rear belt mounting points, but that is a fallback plan as I would like to retain lap straps for the rear at least.

Is that where it’s was mounted from the factory? It’s kinda way back behind your shoulder. I think right above where the rear window and door windows meet.

I could not see an obvious spot on mine for the shoulder harness, sorry about that. I am finishing the seat install this week, and should be roughing in the 4 point ones. Happy to share pics of that though I know it is less relevant to this thread.

I've seen that guys have been mounting these were the coat hook goes. It kind of makes sense. The want you to mount the retractor 13" behind the seat as it will not fit between the door and the seat. It looks like 13" is close to where the coat hook is. I wonder if there is any more metal at the coat hook spot and maybe that's where the factory put the 3-point seat belt hookup? I like that plate you posted, it can be screwed in and once the setup if finalized it can be welded in.

I don't know if this is going to work for you. I cannot seem to copy and paste these instructions. But if you go to Seatbelt solutions you can see how they want you to hook it up.
