I wanted to share a great experience regarding an appraiser and appraisal company. This is first hand, not something I heard.

The company is Auto Appraisal Group (AAG). They claim to be nationwide and the largest network of professional appraisers. Well indeed they are professional, prompt, communicative, and very accurate based on our experience with them.

We used AAG for a pre-purchase inspection on a Road Runner with a dealer (2500 miles away). They did a great job, thorough and very detailed. And their work was money well spent ($350) and we did not make the purchase based on what the inspection uncovered.

So I have to give a big "shout out" to AAG and Larry, the CEO at AAG. Thank you Larry.

My point is to celebrate a professional who did their job. Second point is to emphasize that if a buyer does not inspect the car, then the buyer better have an appraiser involved. My friend could not get to the car, but he was ready to buy sight unseen. I talked him into the AAG guys, and it paid off big time.

I am not saying the seller (dealer) is a scammer. It is an awesome car, overpriced of course, and after some sweet additions it was close to a done deal. Then inspection showed tons of filler. Any buyer could have found it in person, but my friend couldn't travel. Thus a third party inspection.

No scam, just hidden problems, more than enough to not buy it. It's an awesome RR, but my guy chooses to not take the chance (cost) of future metal work.

My advice to a stranger reading this: get someone qualified to inspect and document a classic, whether it's you or a paid professional. Don't buy sight unseen.

How can it be an awesome car if its overpriced and filled with bondo that the seller didn't tell you about? I'd call that a scam.

But you are right. Do your homework before you buy a car sight unseen.

Hi Frank. I guess you're going to pick this to death. I'll give more details - it is awesome for it's looks, paint, motor, and upgrades. It is NOT awesome, and in fact fails miserably, for its body work and zero documentation.

Seemed at first like it's a $25k car, asking $32k, turns out should be $20k or less. And maybe a mistake at any price. We aren't going to buy it and find out.
