Since I have "green" wheel bearings

Why did you switch back to tapered? Did you have the later style Green bearings? Did the greens make a whining or growling sound? ..............................MO
Honestly, I think the greens were a bit noisy, however, that's not why I switched back. My bearings unfortunately leaked out the grease form inside the seals, so I replaced them before they failed. I must have got a bad set or something, as Dr Diff and I could not figure out why it happened. From what I have been told, they don't fail very often.

I got a stern lecture from a fellow member several months ago I bought a part from saying quote I was an "idiot" for installing the green bearings. The story goes these bearings are not overly tolerate of side forces unlike the tapered bearings; great for straight ahead but cornering (street driving) can be a problem. Received a few replies from members saying they've had no problems street driving and then one or two who said theirs failed. I've not driven my car much as it's been in resto mode since last September so...

The 9 inch FERD uses a type of green bearing and everyone that uses said rear just gushes about how great they are.

The greens are just fine, run em and drive the snot out of your car!

I have read about everything I can about "green " bearings, over the years. And honestly was quite skeptical about them. After having a bad end play set up with new tapered bearings, and recent improvements to the "greens" I am giving them a try. After breaking my diff. yoke and getting things back together, I have some gear or bearing howl. I'm not ready to say it is from the" greens"
Since my sure grip is slipping on launch, I will be doing a tear down and see what is going on. To Dang hot out in the garage right now tho...............................MO

Mo I don't think you're howl would be coming from the whl brgs but you never know. Lose the thrust spacer in the middle & go for it.Why did you have a "bad experience" with tapered ? Just curious.

I set up the tapered bearings with the right side adjuster a few years ago. First Mopar I had ever done, and I had the factory service manual. I remember checking that axle end play more than once. When I started driving it, after a few hundred miles. it began to howl . Turned out to be way to much axle end play. Now, I am not a novice to this game, and I don't know where all this end play came from...assuming I made a mistake somewhere... maybe the center block was hanging up??? both buttons were there. Soooo, now trying the improved "greens" ................................MO
