Is it just me or does it seem like all 71-74 chargers set just a touch low in the rear? Whats the best fix for a good mean rake?

A good set of springs can do wonders for that and not cost too much to do. Jegs carries Mopar Performance springs at a pretty good price. The springs in my Coronet are shot and i'm going with the XHD springs when it warms back up.

You may want to check the trunk.

But yes, a set of properly arched springs will give the stance you are looking for without air shocks or ape hangers.

I feel the same way about the 73-74 Road Runners. They seem too high in the front and too low in the back. I'm having a 440 put in my 74, so I'll see what impact on the front that has, then probably put new springs in the rear.

Probly gonna get grief for this :toothy12: Airshocks will get that rear end up, just don't stick a tire in there thats too big, just in case a shock blows out. Which i have heard happens but iv put air shocks on 2 previous cars and are on 2 of my current cars with no problems.

I think Al's right. New springs & shocks. I bought a '74 Charger SE Brougham in '75. Drove it for 6 years & about 100,000 miles. I remember it sitting pretty flat & level from the beginning. Maybe the slightest bit of nose down, so you're looking down at the road, instead of up into space, as you sight down that long hood.

re arch the springs and add a leaf mine has been sitting nice for 38 years now
I did that in the first year I owned the car

I've done probably everything from air shocks to lowering blocks to new springs to 'adjust' ride height. The easiest thing is air shocks and just 10 PSI should get you an inch or so and 10 PSI shouldn't be enough to hurt the upper shock mount. If it does, your top mount was ready to exit the car anyways. Next easiest would be to simply replace the springs but that might not get what you're looking for. Next would be to re-arch what you have. If you have a spring shop near you, call and talk to them. Next imo is to take your springs apart and add a leaf if you know how but that's another thing best left for a spring shop if you don't.

It's getting tough to find a shop that'll re-arch springs. All of the car spring shops around here are gone, and the only shops we have left around here do trucks only.

Hey bruzilla,

i noticed that that my runner was a little low in the tail as I was finishing it.

I finally went went with a 275 rear tire and I think it looks great.

Here is a before and after.....image.jpgimage.jpg

I admit it does look better a little higher, but i personally like the color on that so much i could live with the first stance! :)

iPad pics all Feb 2013 002.jpgFFLosAngeles2013 075.jpg Added a single leaf truck spring from Summit - modified. With beer and luggage it was hanging a little. Hope I picked before and after pics. 1st pic Utah. 2nd pic Los Angeles.

I'm thinking my problem isn't so much being too low in the rear, but too high up front. That's a lot of altitude over the front wheel and tire. I'm thinking the front is about 2" too high.

Thanks for all the replies & potential fixes. I will keep all in mind when I take a better look and pick which is best for me.
