Snubber adjustment

Hey guys, how far should the snubber be from the body? My 66 Belvedere that I am taking off of the track and returning to street duty has the snubber actually touching the body while sitting still. This can't be good! I'm guessing that they did that for racing use as it might make sense for racing, but it seems like there should be some room in there for the rear end to move up and down while driving. Thanks for your help!

The easy answer is if it's a street car the snubber should be lowered to the point that it doesn't contact the body when you go over a fair sized speed bump. If you are asking about an exact measurement from the snubber to the floor I can't help because there are too many variables (Weight of the car, type and condition of the springs, shocks, etc. I'm assuming that you have an adjustable snubber of some kind so it might take a little trial and error to get the result you want. Personally I like the snubber closer than stock, but not so close that it bangs the floor over every bump.
 
Start off what about a inch and a half gap and see how that works out if you hear any banging when you when you're driving you know it's to close and when you burn out if you have any Wheel hop it's too far that but that should be about a good starting point
 
Thanks, guys! I think I will climb under and adjust it down a little bit. Springs are brand new, and shocks look pretty new also, but I'm guessing it was adjusted this way so that it would launch at the track.
