Steering Box. Restore or Buy new?

You don’t have to shorten the column by an inch or so? Or is that in certain models?

You only have to shorten if you had manual steering i believe.. a PS column is already too short for a borgeson, thus the longer adapter.. It's bout 1.5" longer than stock

You might just call Firm Feel and see if they will buy it as a core. I swapped from manual to PS and they gave me $200 for the old manual box, even paid for shipping. Of course it will probably cost $50 +/- to ship the heavy thing but if they are buying you would still probably come out a little ahead.

See what the core value is compared to the shipping coast. May not be cost effective. My neighbors son lives in the area where Firm Feel is. Next time he's down, if I have made the box swap, I'll ask him to drop off the core to FF. No freight.

I bought a built PS box outright from them and asked at the time if they would take my manual steering box as a return core. They said sure. It was almost a year before I got around to installing the swap over and I was unsure if they were still going to take my old one back but I called them and they said they would, no problem. Then I realized in the original box was a prepaid return label for UPS. I was somewhat surprised when I got a check back a few weeks later for $200 as I had kind of forgot what they had said a year earlier.

I don’t know if they will just buy a core but it’s worth asking. In my thinking that old, worn out manual box wasn’t worth $50 to anybody much less $200. Since their prime business is rebuilt PS boxes I would think they might be interested. It doesn’t hurt to ask.
