Rebuilding my steering column on my 65 Belvedere. I bought the black seal with the clamping cover for the universal housing. The cover looks to be a little thicker and the tabs to seal it to the coupler also appear to be slightly short than the original. I tried clamping before closing the tabs, but tabs will not go over to clamp shut. I don't know if there is only one company that makes this kit. What is everyone using, and how did you get the cover to clamp and seal it to the housing? Thanks

Success. Maybe this might help someone else. If your column is disassembled this worked for me. Since my C clamps only were able to catch edges and not able to apply enough pressure, I drilled a hole in 1/4” steel plate so the steering shaft would slide through it. I then used another piece of the plate on the bottom of the housing, clamped with large C clamps. This compressed the gasket enough for me to bend the cover’s tabs using punch and hammer.
