Tachometer interference?

I think I have the same tachometer. But the studs in the plastic housing aren't labeled. Which one is for power and which one is for the signal?

I think those two screws labeled ground in your photo are the mounts for the movement. The top two studs are 12V and signal.
The tach is supposed to ground through the three mounting screws.
 
Yes, but which is 12v and which is signal? I looked up a simplified schematic and it looks like the signal line would have more resistance to ground than the power line. Also, it is tied to diodes at it's imput so maybe it would see a difference depending on which way you measure it. It's really annoying that I can't seem to get an answer on this from the vendor I bought it from. I really don't want to figure it out through trial and error.
