"Testing the waters" the latest annoying trend in listings.

If I don’t sell it by Friday, I’m taking it to the crusher.
I wait until Friday and offer scrap price.

Often I have to explain what is involved with scrapping a car.

Remove the fuel tank and tires. Load it on a trailer. Time spent to go to the yard. Most are closed on the weekends.

Well I said that in my add. If not sold by the third week on January they go in the bin. But I was offering the bikes for free. All the fluids will be removed. And I will remove items that I think may have value later.
Seems a pity to deep six what were very good engines.
However, I did not get much sympathy at the chain saw shop with my old unit.
But, on the bright side, many see value in my 77 Dodge van. I hope so, there is about $15,000 worth of new bits in it.
But it does the same work as a $250,000 Mercedes.

I will admit up front that I have and do offer low ball offers many times especially if it is something that I do not really need. Some people are very offended by this however most either decline (just a no or they lower their asking price some as a counter) or just do not respond. I am not upset either way as I have been on the other side of this many times. As a seller you have the right to say yes, no or no but I will take this (i.e. negotiation). I do not make an offer on something that says "price is firm" unless I am willing to pay that price completely, but if its open ended or says "OBO" that I will make an offer.

Any dumbass "testing the waters" ads would only get a super lowball offer from me since anything else is a waste of time. Actually i don't think i've ever wasted my time with such an add. The other dumbass ads that i won't respond to are the "price only today after that it goes up". Sure it will dumbass!

It's the guys that don't read the dang ad and get pissed when they show up and it's not what they expected.....threatened one guy that if he didn't leave right now that he would meet my double barrel! Can't complain I guess since it only happened one time in all the years of advertising stuff.

I found a set of 15x7 older round spoke cragars a guy advertised on facebook as nearly perfect. The pics looked good and i talked to him on the phone and he assured me there was no chrome flaking or rust. I agreed to purchase and had a 4 hour drive each way to pick them up. Got there and went into his house and he says "there they are" and pointed to a set of clearly flaking and rusty cragars. I was about to get super pisssed and he said "just kidding". The set i did get were pretty nice.

Had a 73 Challenger roller with no engine, trans or interior and said that in the ad. The guy showed up with a wrecker (at least he read enough to know it didn't run) but got pissed that it didn't have interior. He got mad right off the bat so I gave him a copy of the ad and that just made him madder. That's when I said while walking towards the garage "hold on while I go over here and get my.....12g" and he disappeared. My driveway is over 100' long and it didn't take him long to high tail it to the waiting wrecker.

Generally, I won't kid around with people that drove a long distance unless they initiate it lol.

I hate the eBay ads that say look, rare when there’s four more listed. No low ballers,no Jew downs,,I don’t answer this or that,I can’t mail it,and the best one, they offer a stupid low price and it’s CASH,like I’d rather have 2 chickens and a goat.

when the seller says I don't have to sell it I will tell them I don't have to buy it either. then with a high price ad saying serious buyers only I tell them how about being a serious seller.

Anyone who is "testing the waters" on their own vehicle they are looking for an ego stroke. These are the same *** hats that love the "what's it worth" pages. Anyone who owns a classic car of pretty much any kind has an idea of its value, if not it takes about 5 minutes online to get an idea.

Now I can understand a "WIW" question on something someone is trying to buy especially if it isn't near them as vehicle values and prices can vary greatly in different parts of the country. However, it someone is asking about a vehicle they own then IMO they are looking for bragging rights and certainly get pissed off when someone gives an answer that is far below what they think it should be.

Just like a TV reality cooking show.....that advert has all the "elements" :jackoff:

What baffles me is when people explain why they are selling the car.

Why?
This used to be an important issue in regards to late model cars. If the car is just 5 years old, why sell it unless it is a piece of crap and you're trying to unload your problems onto someone else?
With the classics....
If an owner bit off far more than he can chew, although it may be hard to admit, (and they may never do so out of pride) it would be good to know.

I'm usually buying older cars and I'm usually just interested in the history of the vehicle.
I can also make my own determination if it's a piece of crap.
