The cost of a paint job.

there are 5 Maacos in Denver
I should have been clearer - they are “all gone” in the Little Rock area. A few still exist over in the Fort Smith area and in Springdale up north.

I swiped this off of Corvette Forum. This guy restores and paints C1 Corvettes - top notch stuff. Apparently he branches out on Tri-box Chevys too.

I never learned to become "sufficient" in body repair & paint, in my younger days, as I had a Good Friend nearby that Loved it. He eventually moved away, and made a Business out of it, with his family. They are now One of the Top Level Restoration Shops in the Country, with a waiting list running 4-5 years out. Small crew to control the Quality. Complete builds now range from $250K to $*** Depending on the customer's desires. They've received Many Top Awards for their efforts...

I like how they hid the labels in that pic....lol.

There is a ton of markup in paint and some of the top tier material is the exact same stuff found in the lower-level line at one third the price.

If you shop around, you can save on materials. PPG Deltron/NXT DCU2021 clear. $1000/gallon, or more, with hardener at the paint store or buy it off E-Bay for $350. The product was fresh as well.

When my GTX was painted back in 2001, the paint - colour was around NZ$400 a gallon tin (4 litres) - and that was with a discount.

The topcoats are the cheapest part....it's all the sandpapers, blocks, primer, filler..... everything adds up. I'm just lucky I had a friend do the job with a lot of help from me and a couple others. I couldn't afford to paint that car again that same way.

That was for thier high build, I use Omni epoxy (basically the same as PPG LFDP) which I can get for $250 a gallon with hardener.
