I just read a news article about him. He still goes to the WWII Memorial on Saturdays and shakes hands with veterans. If you ever get a chance to read his autobiography "One Soldier's Story" please do. He fought hard for his life after being wounded in Italy.
We have a slight connection to him so when he ran for president and lost to Bill Clinton, my 1st grade daughter made a little voting ballot with crayons and marked it with a vote for Bob Dole and we sent it to him. We thought it was cute. A couple of months later one Saturday morning Sen. Dole called my house and asked to speak to my daughter Kylie. He personally thanked her.

He has a GREAT sense of humor. After he did a Viagra commercial folks were really teasing him. In response he did this subtly Viagra related Pepsi commercial.

Here's a couple of more stories about him. He was a pretty buff and handsome teenager. Living in the small town of Russell, Kansas they didn't have access to gyms and weights so Bob and his brother would lift car parts like rear axles to build themselves up. My wife's grandparents owned the soda shop in Russell and they knew the handsome soda jerks would bring in girl customers so Bob always worked there. Later at Kansas Univ. Dole had to work as a busboy for the fraternities to get money for college. He was injured helping a radioman in Italy During WWII. He almost died but the town of Russell, KS. raised enough money to send him to a good hospital so he could survive but never regained the use of his right arm.
