Thermoquad fast idle loss.

About four weeks ago set up fast idle and curb idle. I got it dialed in perfectly and worked fine. Then yesterday after sitting for a week fast idle gone and had to feather the throttle to avoid a stall. The carb was never touched. The battery is weak and need to replace soon, would that have any impact?
Secondly any suggestions on a new replacement carb, Holly, Edelbrock ? I’ve carefully rebuilt the TQ twice, but getting tired of its reliability.

The TQ is as reliable as it gets when assembled properly. You should check the O rings & plastic cups under the primary main jets [ for leakage ].
'The carb was never touched'. Amazes me how people think a 50 yr old carb should just bolt on & work perfectly without any internal checks....

Is there much wear on the throttle shaft on the primaries? A loose throttle shaft can cause some irregularity when trying to make fine adjustments. Some wear may explain why the linkage changed even though you did not touch it.

Sorry I wasn’t clear I did a complete and careful rebuild about 6 weeks ago, installed it and it performed flawlessly cold start idle 1600 and 1000 after warm up. Had it out and about a few times all good. As said car sat till last week ( carb never touched) and now no fast idle. Choke is working all linkage looks fine.

Well if it was closed and set right it would work right. You are missing something.

No, it's just that I'll take the TQ over any of the other choices you mentioned.

Edelbrock AVS2 or a Holley Street Demon could work for a replacement. Street demon has a similiar look to the TQ, but is not a thermoquad. Thermoquad is a excellent carb dialed in. Time you do the linkage and choke changes you may have the TQ figured out. Here is a link to a TQ to Street demon swap.

Have you double checked that the choke rod pushes up when cold?
The fast idle step is very visible on the cam on the prim throttle shaft.

When the engine (Choke) is cold, just touching the throttle should immediately raise the bolt that moves against the prim throttle shaft cam and put it on fast idle.

Something is not right with linkage. It's all mechanical only thing the electric heater on divorced choke does is turn it off quicker, emissions. Is it colder now? Most of the country just went through a pretty deep freeze. Is the pull off not opening the choke partially after it starts and it's just loading up with fuel and stalling.

Car was daily driver from 74-85. Restored it over the next three years and became a show car and good weather cruiser, has about 125K. See attached photos.

he here you go, solinoid works only when A/C is engaged I think.
