Thermostat

Are there any stats made in the USA?

Do you guys use any sealant on your thermostats? If so what kind?

I'm not exactly sure what a "failsafe" on a thermostat is.. sorry... but having one of those little odd "wiggle piece of metal in a hole" or simply a hole through the "face" of the thermostat is a good idea. You can drill that hole yourself no problem. The idea is that when you drain & refill the cooling system, sometimes big air bubbles can get stuck inside the engine & air bubbles don't cool your engine very well, so the engine can get hot. In a real bad case of air entrapment, air can get caught right behind the thermostat preventing it from opening up. By having a hole or a hole with a "little wiggle piece" in it, you give any air bubbles a way to get past the thermostat. And yes, the Stant Superstats are good. Don't go cheap on a thermostat for sure.. And the stock thermostat housing gaskets are best, but RTV form-a-gasket works too on the old Mopars with flat mating surfaces.

The parts guy explained that a failsafe is if the thermostat gets "stuck" it will be stuck in the open position.

Use a Stant Superstat. The best.
This with this Fel-Pro, no sealant.
