Thoughts on boring a 440 block to 60 over

.060 is normal, but 64 is right. If you can, sonic the block. I'd personally never bore any block without a torque plate, nor without squaring. Everyone built plenty of these before sonic testing was available, but...we also took brand x big blocks out to .080 with no problem....usually, lol.

I agree... Yeah or to 0.100" over, BBC.... Sonic Checking it's just cheap insurance either way, been around sense the late 70's at-least & especially if the block has any noticeable core shift, or it's going to be a performance/race build your putting a bunch of money into, money well spent...

The real late B or RB engines had thin walls and were limited to .030 however that was the late 400's and the last of the 440's around 77/78. A block of your age will safely take a .060 over bore.

We started sonic checking big blocks in the late 70's. In the mid 80's we sonic'ed 10 -12 440's of different years at the same time. The '67 - '73's were in the same general thickness range, core shift & major/minor thrust varied block to block. I kept 5 of them & the 76 & 77 were definitely thinner, but would go .030 easy & still be about .200 if I remember correctly. One '70 was much thicker than the rest & I still have that one and a '71 that was the second thickest. I'd say most any '67 block can go .060 with no trouble, just a few ponies less than a thicker one. My two 400 blocks I used were 72's & they were clearly thicker than all the 76 & later 400's we tested.
