Thrust button roll pin length ??

I'm getting ready to reassemble my 8 3/4 rear end (742) SG. I have the thrust buttons for it, but I need to head to the hardware store for a roll pin. Does anyone have a rough idea what length pin I'll need for that? I know lots of online stores carry the entire kit, but why buy new buttons, eh?

And it doesn't have to be an exact measurement.....just as long as it isn't too long. You want the button ends to mate up with each other.

I have used 1/8" split pins as long as the combined length of both buttons. The expansion force of the spring pin will hold the buttons in place.
