Timing Cover Replacement

Very sanitary work there...Leaks, what a surprise.

Hey, I tried to seal it. I don't go for pretty I go for functional. It's not a show engine, it's a driver. The timing cover got a thin coat of ultra black, then the seal got stuck on. The oil pan got Ultra blacked and then the timing cover got put on. I'm thinking it's that freeze plug.

The U rubber seals the front of the oil pan and the metal cylinder is a spacer for the harmonic balancer if it is loose on the crank. That’s what the little tube of loctitle is for. Check the balancer before you go together and see if it is sloppy on the crank. If it’s tight no need for the shim. Hope this helps you.

The rubber "U" shaped seal is for a newer style front oil pan seal. The other rubber seal with multiple tits, is for the older 1960's type oil pans.
The metal sleeve is a repair part that sleeves (presses over) the harmonic balancer hub if it is worn.

Its just that only a very thin area of the gaskets surface does the sealing. Piling it on doesn't do anything but waste materials and make it harder to see where the actual leak is, if it leaks. Be neat and clean and you will always have better results, no matter what you are doing....
