My car used to have a 275 60/15 et streets on it. Went to put slicks on and was told a 30x9 Hoosier would fit. After cutting the inner wheel lip out and also cutting down my long wheel studs I was able to muscle the tires on. Put the car in neutral and spun the rear tires and they are rubbing against the 1/4s near the top. The 30x9 tires bowe out to much and this is what rubbing on the 1/4s. What tire can I fit on this thing 28x9? The 275 60/15 fit perfect with no rubbing and the side wall didn't bowe out so much as the 30x9. Springs are in the stock location if that helps any thanks also my rims are 15x8 with 4.5 back spacing

The car is a 67 belvedere btw

I can not believe you got the 15 x 8's in there regardless of back spacing with stock wells. Your doing good now just go with the sudjusted 28 x 9's.

9x28 will fit perfectly with no modes other than removal of the 1/4 panel inner lip.
And keep them on those 8 inch wheels with 4.5 backspace. I ran my 67 Belvedere with that configureation.
I later used the 3/4 inch A-body spring relocate kit and was able to get 10x28 Hoosiers on the same rims to fit.

Rolled wheel lips, moved front corner, hammer inner lips, 9X29 Goodyears on 15X7. All brands and sizes have different sectional widths.

On my 67 Belvedere Wagon I run a Hoosier 28x9 slick on steel rims that are 15x8 w/4.5 backspacing. I have 1/2" clearance at the fender lip and 3/4 to the spring. This is w/Caltracs at stock height.
One thing I watched was section width. Some have a more of a flat side wall. I had room for a 29" tall but they were all too wide at the section width measurement. Note that with these tires I can still get the tires on w/the long wheel studs(I do have to let the suspension hang all the way down).
When I ordered mine from Hargrove Tires I requested the largest diameter they had for the above tire. Mine were actually 28.5.

I had 9X30's on the car at one point. I went to a stiff sidewall 29. Less squirm and issues.

I have the Hoosier radial 30 x 9 slicks on my 63 Sport Fury and they fit good. I did change the back spacing on my rims as the 15 x 8 Steelies put the tire out to far and on bumps they hit up inside the 1/4's but I had alot of room on the inside so I changed the rims to more back space and it moved the tire in about an inch and they fit great with that steelie rim. I dont remember the back spacing as they have been on my car about 7 years. But with the right back spacing they fit with room to spare. Ron
