To Epoxy or Not to Epoxy?

Thanks for all the input yall. Looking like I’ll be following the following.

- Epoxy primer the whole car
- Fill low spots
- High-build poly primer whole car(has built in guide coat)
- Finalize fill in lows
- 2k prime
- Sealer
- Base coat
- Clear
Your forgetting the part we're you
re prime and block again.
That high build is nice but once you block out that guide coat your going to be dinging a tap or two here and there and useing a little feather fill here and there.
Sounds like you got a good plan and nice car. Spend a couple bucks and a weekend extra you will be glad you did.
 
Another vote for SPI epoxy. It lays out great, is super tough and just for peace of mind, you know the metal is sealed up.
I’d be careful with the ospho or any rust converter. It has its place but man it’s sometimes difficult to neutralize it completely. I had two areas where epoxy peeled up super easily after a few weeks of it curing. Guess where they were? ONLY the areas that had Ospho applied. Meant I had to back track quite a bit but I got it fixed. After this, I decided against ospho.

After further research. I’ve decided against Ospho. Seems like we’re adding an additional element that could backfire when we’re already taking strong strides with the epoxy.
 
Didn't read all the posts here, but my question on your OP is why not use single-stage urethane vs. BC/CC ?

BC/CC is a better overall product with better depth, gloss, durability and the ability to use metallics, if I go down that road. Metallics are not good single stage.
 
Thanks for all the thoughts. Sandwhich method epoxy then fill before another epoxy coat. Kicked out a lot of my big issues. Crazy to see the car with little to no rot, rust or hail damage. High build, sealer and paint after the racing season ends!
