Tony's Auto Parts... Not Thrilled

I have purchased thermoquads from both Tony and Bruzilla. Now my thermoquad from Tony had some wasted internals and he was nice enough to send me replacements at no additional cost. Bruzilla was nice enough to give me the mopar brotherhood discount on my latest purchase, which I appreciate very much. I think both of you are standup guys! Maybe you should talk on the phone, work things out, kiss and makeup, or what ever it takes! LOL

I've used Tonys a number of times - found him expensive - but the transactions went off smoothly. That's with shipping from the east coast to the mid west.

I dont think id hang the business either for a few days delivery time. Give him another shot.

Bruzilla IS on the forum, at least he replied to my #6 Post....
Tony replied to him in Post #13
Bruzilla replied to me in Post #14
As I mentioned in Post #3, Post #6 and Post #11: contact them, not us if you have a problem.
If it can not be resolved or said company, individual does not reply then let the forum know.
Again: "Blowing things up with small bombs never helps"
Go to the source and handle it.

Called them one time to inquire about a part. Guy on the phone was rude and not really wanting to answer my question. Won't be calling them again.

I'm as impatient as anybody but also understand that **** happens. My rule of thumb is give them at least an extra day and then call to verify shipping, 9 times out of 10 there's a legit reason.

Great Lakes Mopar screwed me out of $2,000.00. Sold me the wrong parts and half of them never made it to me. Claimed he shipped the parts out, but could not give me tracking numbers. I had to put the incorrect parts on eBay for a huge loss as I did not trust sending them back to him for a refund as I paid with a credit card. Stay away from Great Lakes Mopar. Tony, in my experiences with him, is a great vendor although he can be a touch rude if you do not speak his Mopar language as fluently as him.

Thanks for that heads up on "GREAT MISTAKES" MOPAR. I call it that for an entirely different reason not related to cars and parts. This is my first at dealing with them. For my purchase, it went smoothly. Those Belt Line Trim parts are scarce and virtually non-existent. And when I do find them online or elsewhere, they are either really beat up or need complete re-finishing or are just way too expensive. So to find an NOS part at the price I got it and its condition was like really cool. It it's in great shape. But they were very stand offish on their email response to return the over payment so we shall see. Even if I wind up eating the difference, $145.00 for one of those pieces is also a great price. I seriously doubt though that I will do any further business with them...cr8crshr/Tuck

We have a universally big problem with shipping charges. Number one, the companies like Federal Express, DHL, and UPS, as of 2015, now charge more for the size of the box than the weight. Send a big box of feathers and you will have to sell the family ranch. The other problem is sellers do not specify how they figure shipping charges: actual shipping fee only, shipping fee plus handling fee, shipping fee plus handling fee plus a little extra markup in there to boot, etc. I guess eventually there outa be a law so every seller makes these things clear to the purchaser. Until then, we will see more misunderstandings and continue to see outrageous shipping fees for tiny parts. The other problem is not giving the buyer the option for a slower/less expensive mode of transport. One more thing, some believe that because companies like Amazon offer so much "free" shipping, that the rest of us pay more to subsidize their free shipping offers (which I personally tend to believe).

I check the mail on Tuesday... nothing. Well, maybe they sent it Priority mail so it'll get here on Wednesday. Nope. Still nothing. I can order a set of transmission cooling lines from an outfit in California, with free shipping, and get it in two days, in a HUGE box, but here I am paying a guy in Delaware $17 to ship a little rod and now it's day four and still nothing?

I guess this will be my first, and last, purchase from Tony's Auto Parts.

I hear you but there are a lot of vendors that do this. I like Tony's because they are a mopar place you can call them up and they can find all the little esoteric parts that you can't find easily, restoration parts that arent repopped that if you called Mancini they would be like "huh?" Not to say anything bad about Mancini, they have their niche too. New race parts, mainstream mopar stuff. I buy from both. I don't like mancinis shipping charges and they don't give you tracking emails..but I always get the part I need. Roseville moparts is an alternative to Mancini they are a Chrysler dealer that specializes in restoration parts as well.

All of these places serve a need. And mopar folks need all the help we can get.

The high volume shippers ship hundreds per day and usually have a after hours pickup the driver can access any time
so they pay less and we pay more

Shipping cost have gone up quite a bit lately. I underestimated the last couple of items that I sent out. It's getting crazy. Like dibbins said, they are going by the size of the box and the distance I might add. "Box of feathers"!

Now with the price of fuel, being half of the cost it was last year, the shipping companys are making a killing...

Oh come on, wake the F up people! Shipping costs money, boxes cost money, tape costs money, time costs money to wrap it, sent it, etc. I think that part should have cost at least 35 dollars to ship it! Tony gave you a DEAL!

I'd like to chime in on this . I've dealt with Tony a few times ,he is a great guy, I've bought from him parts are always great and just like he says they are shipping is what shipping is you can't knock the guy for shipping take your box and bring it to a post office and ask them how much to ship it back just so you see the cost . I got a little tiny box that isn't heavy but is longer then 12" it cost $18 and change to ship it from fl to n.y. shipping is expensive it sucks but try finding a lower shift rod for your mopar in a local junk yard or c.l. it's not going to happen we should thank Tony for having these parts that we need and not killing us on the price .we deff shouldn't be bashing him for the cost to send the part he doesn't make the prices up nor does he make the delivery dates . Hell I had next day mail sent to me it took a week to get here figure that one out .

Tony if your reading this thanks for your help and services to the mopar community

I'm gonna chime in too! As I don't have experience buying anything from Tony', I do know that shipping any item has gone crazy in recent months/years!

My most recent issue with a company (which I've never had issues with before) was I messed up a Lokar throttle cable and had the engine sitting and waiting. I ordered on a Friday night, 2nd day air. Paid for the faster shipping. Realized that Saturday and Sunday were off, so Monday. My item didn't actually ship until Tuesday and got it Thursday. Called and spoke to them, nothing bunch of excuses. Called back spoke to mgr. got 2nd day air fee back! But had to go to the source.

Stuff happens even with the best businesses! Go right to the source! Always better to talk to the one who really has the vested interest in the company!

Sorry to go on so long but I hope it helps Bruz and Tony resolve things!

Called them one time to inquire about a part. Guy on the phone was rude and not really wanting to answer my question. Won't be calling them again.

Actually, the same thing happened to me. AND.. it was my first time trying to use him. Bought that part elsewhere. Perhaps he is too busy with TV show business and GYC ?

Gee...where is Bruzilla?

Bruzilla was out trying to coax a driver's side header onto his engine. :)

Okay, I got the rod in from Tony's yesterday. Seems like a nice piece and worth the money, so no problems there. I did read Tony's post, and I would like to respond to some of the things he mentioned.

"Like most shipping companies cost is based not only on weight but the size of the box" This is very true, as any of us who mail parts to people know very well. But... the rod is about 11" long, the box was 22" long, so basically I was paying to ship 11" of metal and 11" of wadded up newspaper. We all like padding, but that's a bit much. And the box had the part information stamped on the end, so it wasn't a case of someone grabbing a generic box and putting the rod in. Also, stuffed inside was a fairly robust Tony's catalog, so I was also paying to ship his catalog, which I had not requested. Seemed like the box was more about sending the catalog than the part. Lastly, and this was odd, I weighed the box on my postal scale, and it came out to 1 lb 9 ozs, but on the shipping sheet the weight was 3.0 lbs. I don't know where that other 1.5 pounds came from.

"In regards to you not receiving a tracking number if you would have asked we would have gladly provided one to you." I have no problem with this, but I would say the standard these days is to provide a number automatically, which is why I didn't ask for one. It might have been nice to have been asked "would you like a tracking number?" if one isn't provided automatically.

"In regards to you thinking that it was sent express an overnight letter cost about $25 today" True, but the cost to mail that package via USPS would have been $7.87, which is why when I saw the $17 charge I thought it might be coming second day.

"We ship 98 percent of our orders taken with 24 hours" This is an adequate turnaround time, but when I call in an order at 9:00AM, and pay for it, and see the credit card charge come though immediately, I don't think 24 hours is very impressive. The standard for a lot of vendors these days is same day, and many of them will get a part out to me same day as long as I order before 4:00PM their time. Again, a 24-hr turnaround isn't necessarily bad, but its' not worthy of commendation either.

"If your order was taken online you automatically would have gotten a tracking number. But because your order was taken over the phone we didn't have your e-mail address" Unless I'm missing something, there is no way to order online. If there was I would have placed my order Saturday night instead of waiting until Monday morning. From what I could see, the only way to place an order without calling is to send an email, to a non-secure AOL account, with my credit card information on it... yeah, that's just not happening. Also, the instructions state you have to call or write to get a shipping total as there is no calculator or standard shipping costs provided. So if there's an online ordering option, I'm not seeing it.

I want to make it clear, I'm not busting on Tony's, nor discouraging anyone from using him. I'm just saying that I wasn't thrilled with my business dealing with him, and sorry, but I'm not going to sing the praises of a vendor who's doing an adequate job as well as I would a vendor's who's really hitting the mark. I want to encourage businesses to do better, and you don't do that by treating those who do the best, and those who are adequate, the same.
